Flowers for Huntington Disease – May 2019
The ‘flowers for Huntington’s’ opening gala was a well-attended event and a great opportunity to speak with several of the artists featured in the art show, facilitated by artist Christa Specht. During the 2018-early 2019 year Christa lead several paint night events giving members of our community the opportunity to create a floral art piece for the show.
The opening night of the gallery featured a spring show of floral art and was in support of the Huntington Society of Canada and our local Halifax Chapter.
Halifax Chapter Comedy Night – 2018
The Halifax Chapter’s first ever comedy night and silent auction was a great success. It was an evening of laughter and information featuring cutting edge research into treatment for Huntington Disease. Attendees enjoyed Yuk Yuk’s best stand up comedians, food, and drinks.
The Halifax chapter would like to thank all those who came out to support this fundraiser and donated towards items on our silent auction.
Light it up for HD – 2018
From May 29th-May 31st Halifax City Hall was lit up in blue and purple to raise awareness for Juvenile HD (in purple) and HD (in blue) in honour of Huntington Disease Awareness Month, held each May. Light it up is a national event that has been in motion since 2015 when a Toronto man, Jamie – a volunteer from the Huntington Society of Canada (HSC), was instrumental in having the CN tower lit up for HD awareness. HSC chapters are proud to continue this tradition!
On the first evening our chapter hosted a small meet and greet outside the hall for the reading of the Proclamation by Halifax City Councillor Steve Craig, which was followed with a flag-raising. Afterwards, City Hall was illuminated in blue and purple for HD and our small community was filled with pride!

2016 National Conference
On November 3rd, 4th and 5th, 2016, the HSC National Conference was hosted in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This weekend long event is held every other year for HD community members across Canada to come together, learn from researchers and support workers and feel connected. Some of the sessions were recorded for those who wish to see them again or for those who were unable to attend. Please see the HSC website to enjoy these recordings.
